The Blow Off Valve
is the part that makes the high-pitched woosh sound between shifts on a
Turbocharged Engine. Not only do they sound cool, but they also benefit the
engine. The Turbo spools on acceleration and builds Turbo Boost. When you shift gears,
the throttle body closes for a second when you release the gas pedal. This traps
Turbo Boost Pressure in the intake pipe. The only
place for this Boost to go is back through the turbo, which slows its rotation
down. When you install a Turbo Blow Off Valve on the Intake Pipe, that extra
Turbo Boost Pressure can
escape through it between Gear Shifts. When Turbo Boost Pressure escapes through the Blow Off Valve this
Creates
the Sound that everyone hears. When you get into the next gear and accelerate
again, the Turbo spools up again, but faster because the Blow Off Valve has
eliminated "Pressure Surge". Also, GReddy makes a Pressure Relief Valve that
works just like the Blow Off Valve and is designed to be a back up system for
cars in case of a boost spike or for people that shift fast.
