The Intercooler cools the air flow that comes from the Turbo. Since the Turbo is driven by Exhaust gases, this heats the air that is compressed for boost. Using an Intercooler lowers air temperature which increases horsepower. The Intercooler also maintains a suitable consistency in temperature and volume for accurate fuel tuning. Front Mounts look really cool hiding behind the bumper, but often they take the place of the factory bumper support.
